Adopt Your Drain!
Adopt Your Drain!
Did you know that Algoma storm drains don’t connect to the wastewater treatment plant like some might think? Instead, they carry untreated stormwater directly into the Ahnapee River or onto Crescent Beach, depending on your location. And it’s not just rain flowing through these drains—trash, oil, leaves, and chemicals can tag along too, impacting our water quality, local wildlife, and the beauty of our beach.
The good news? You can help by adopting a drain! By committing to keep a drain near your home or business clear of debris, you’ll help prevent street flooding, reduce pollution, and protect our river and lake. Have some fun and give your drain a name. Learn about our Adopt Your Drain effort and how to participate by visiting the Friends of Crescent Beach website at www.friendsofcrescentbeach.org/adopt-your-drain. Help us spread the message: “Only rain down the drain!”
