Chiropractor’s Connection to Boardwalk Started Early
Jodi (Rabas) Burns’ association with the boardwalk began at a young age. As a member of the POPS Program (Power of Positive Students) at the Algoma Elementary School, Jodi and her team of fellow students raised $136.00 to help fix some of the damage on the boardwalk caused by vandals.
Fast forward 25 years and Jodi still maintains a strong connection to the boardwalk and beach. As a chiropractor Jodi offered adjustments for donation on the beach. The first year her donations were directed to Water.org, a charity for safe water and sanitation. “I was able to give adjustments on the boardwalk when we were raising money to donate to the Andy Barta family. It was a great day to be out there, and the boardwalk saved my table from sinking in to the sand over time. The boardwalk was also my main workout place when I lived in town. I would do a different activity (squats, lunges, etc) when I got to a new light pole and a min plank at every set of benches. It was a great place to get a workout in!”
Friends of Crescent Beach is an all-volunteer organization working to research and compile information about the history of the boardwalk through interviews, newspaper clippings and records. If you have information you would like to add, please let us know by submitting through this link. We are collecting historical information, photographs, and personal stories of the boardwalk. If you would like to donate to preserving the boardwalk for another 25 years, please visit our donation page.
