Volunteer with Friends of Crescent Beach

Spring is finally here—the sun is shining, and our beautiful Lake Michigan is sparkling!

As the weather warms, volunteers with Friends of Crescent Beach get going.  You can make a difference!  The Friends of Crescent Beach Committee offers numerous volunteer opportunities that work for you: they encompass diverse interests and recognize the time constraints we all have.  Even if you have just a few spare hours this summer, there are plenty of helpful and meaningful ways for you to contribute as your schedule allows. Our volunteer options range from weekly hour-long Crescent Crew gatherings, dedicated to removing invasive plants and nurturing native species suitable for the beach environment, to participating in one-time cleanups, planting projects, and event support.

Do you have a project idea or a unique talent to share? Your suggestions are valuable to us, and we encourage you to get in touch.   We have lots of DIY activities you can do at home and will be sharing those in future newsletters and social media posts.

Launching soon, our "Adopt Your Drain" initiative encourages Algoma residents to take ownership of a storm drain near their home or workplace.  By keeping the drain clear of debris and adhering to a "no dumping" policy—"only rain down the drain”—you can help to prevent untreated stormwater runoff into Lake Michigan and the Ahnapee River.  In this way, property owners can play a role in minimizing stormwater runoff.

Our newly formed partnership with the Lake Michigan Bird Observatory's Neighborhood Habitat Improvement Project offers opportunities to explore the use of native plants and other strategies for safeguarding water and air quality.

You can stay informed about volunteer opportunities by visiting our website or Facebook page and subscribing to our newsletter.  Email us at focb@lnrp.org to be added to our volunteer email list.
