Olson Park Update

The Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership (LNRP), in collaboration with the City of Algoma, has

successfully secured a $283,000 Sustain Our Great Lakes grant for the restoration of Olson Park. This

exciting project will bring nature-based stormwater solutions and greenspace improvements to protect

water quality and highlight Olson Park as a premier spot for nature walks, bird watching, fishing,

boating, and kayaking. Years in the making and shaped by public input since 2019, the project is set to

improve the park while addressing environmental concerns.

A significant aspect of the restoration is the reduction of pollution entering the Ahnapee River and Lake

Michigan. By relocating the city’s snow dump away from the river and implementing natural stormwater

management strategies, the project will help protect local waters. Additionally, the planting of native

trees and shrubs will create a more inviting habitat for wildlife and improve the park’s natural beauty.

Once work begins, the community will be invited to help in transforming Olson Park into a greener,

cleaner space for everyone. With in-kind contributions and matching funds also supporting this grant,

this project wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the LNRP team and the City of Algoma.

Friends of Crescent Beach is proud to support this effort as an LNRP watershed partner.
